Daniel LauDirector, Co-Founder
Daniel is the co-founder and director of DSL, bringing over 15 years of experience in the structural engineering industry. A graduate of Swinburne University with a double degree in civil engineering and business.
Daniel is passionate about guiding projects from the initial documentation phase through to completion and working alongside architects, builders and owners to ensure the project is completed to the highest standards.
Outside of work, he enjoys quality time with family and friends, exploring his love for cooking, playing tennis, and indulging in his passion for fast cars.
Shan Lau is the co-founder and director of DSL, which he established with Daniel in 2016. With a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Melbourne University, he now has over 45 years of experience in the industry.
Shan began his career as a structural engineer at Pat Baygar & Associates Pty Ltd, where he eventually took over as director when the business was handed to him.
Outside of his professional work, Shan is deeply passionate about martial arts and has been practicing Kung Fu since the age of 5. He also enjoys travelling overseas with his family, socialising with friends, and is currently writing a book on Kung Fu. His favourite foods are yum cha and dumplings.
Franky graduated from RMIT University with a Degree in Civil Engineering and has spent his entire engineering career at DSL. He contributes to DSL projects by assisting with design work, calculations, and the preparation of structural drawings and reports. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and diving. He’s also a passionate soccer fan, supporting Manchester United since the age of seven.
Since joining DSL in 2021, Leon initially served as a Junior Structural Drafter. Upon completing his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering in 2024, he has been given the pleasure to transition into the role of a Graduate Structural Engineer – which entails structural design and drafting, aiding on-site inspections, and inspection reports. Outside of work, Leon really enjoys going on hikes and anything to do with nature. He also enjoys playing volleyball (at a competitive level) and swimming. Most importantly though, Leon loves indulging in delicious foods (specifically desserts).
Don holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Monash University and spent 11 years working in munitions production at the Department of Defence in Footscray. Since 1989, he has shifted to the building and construction industry, bringing his expertise to DSL, where he supports structural drafting and IT operations. In his free time, Don enjoys exploring new music, attending concerts and live theatre shows, playing both the guitar and Erhu, and indulging in his love for pasta and Chinese food. He also enjoys travelling overseas and values his downtime.
After graduating from RMIT with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Nam has been working in the building industry since 2017 and joined DSL in 2021. As a structural drafter, he plays a key role in assisting with the design and preparation of structural documents for a variety of projects. Beyond his professional life, Nam has a keen interest in assembling furniture and woodworking, especially when custom pieces are required. A passionate gamer, he enjoys a wide range of genres, from JRPGs to first-person shooters, and has been playing video games since childhood. Nam also enjoys futsal and soccer, primarily as a goalkeeper, although he can adapt to any position on the field. Music is another important part of Nam’s life, particularly classic rock, indie rock, and electronic music. An avid concert-goer, he also plays guitar, including electric, bass, and acoustic, and loves discussing guitar gear. At home, he takes care of a laid-back, tiger-striped greyhound named Gertie. And when it comes to a quick meal, Mi Goreng instant noodles are his favourite!
Mey’s expertise lies in creating technical drawings that are primarily used in construction and manufacturing, turning ideas into detailed drawings and sketches, which then serve as blueprints for building projects. Additionally, Mey converts 2D drawings into 3D models, which help provide a clearer understanding of how structures will work. She is always inspired by the world around her and aims to produce drawings that are not only visually appealing but also practical.
Eleni is the Senior Office Administrator and Executive Assistant to both Shan and Daniel at DSL. Since joining in 2020, she’s played a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the office, managing client communications, and coordinating tasks with the team. Outside of work, Eleni enjoys traveling, reading (with a particular love for Harry Potter), listening to crime podcasts during her commute, dining out with friends and family, and indulging in her love for chocolate—her ultimate weakness.
Since joining our team in 2022, Lin has been a part of our administration team, working as Eleni‘s assistant, ensuring that the office runs smoothly and supporting the team in any way she can. Lin has had stints in bank telling, admin/clerical duties, and data entry in the past, since moving from Malaysia. Comprising a nice blend of varied personalities, she finds the team at DSL to be supportive and spirited. Lin relishes gelato, a strong coffee latte, watching Netflix, and sometimes dancing in her car.
